What is AYES? Automotive Youth Educational Systems is a program sponsored by leading automotive manufacturers and designed to bring young talent into the automotive industry. Specifically, AYES seeks to place high school juniors and seniors in entry-level positions in the service departments of area new-vehicle dealerships.
The AYES program is sponsored by the following manufacturers: Audi, BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, and Volkswagen. These manufacturers recognize the value of working together to bring young talent into the industry. They are committed to it and to the AYES program. After high school, post-secondary training exists through NATEF.
The AYES program exists for two reasons. First, the manufacturers recognize the baby boom retirement era and the potential effects it holds for the automotive industry, particularly in service technology. Second, today’s cars are very complicated machines. Consequently, there are fewer parents working at home on their vehicles with their sons and daughters in tow.
The potential technician's lack of exposure at an early age means that the industry as a whole needs to step into the role as educator and mentor of young minds. Thus, the AYES program was born in 1995 by General Motors. Today the AYES program enjoys the support of the 14 manufacturers listed above, as well as the endorsements of the Federal Departments of Labor, Education and Commerce.
Combine this with the support of 35 State and Metropolitan Dealer Associations and many State Departments of Education throughout the country, and it is easy to see why your obvious choice for quality automotive training should be the AYES program at a high school near you.
